Do You Work Too Much?

Take my poll about how many hours you work per week in the top right. I'm interested in knowing if the mythical "9-5" job still exists in America? Well, besides in the government. CNN had a little quiz that you might be interested in looking at. I heard that in France people only work 35 hours a week. Wow. Can anyone confirm this? I also heard that they get like 5 weeks of mandatory vacation. Mandatory vacation. There you go. However, I wonder how salaries compare to those here in America.

I can confirm that scenario is common with most European countries. They view "holiday" as an essential part of every year. Even "middle-class" families will often take some pretty lavish vacations.

The salaries may not be exactly the same, but it comes down to how you manage your money. Living in smaller houses and driving more economical cars (or just using public transportation) can stretch the average paycheck much further.

With all of that said, I find myself leaning towards 45+ hour weeks more frequently. I'm sure it will only get worse as they rely on me more and more. I'm sure that situation is common of most people in this area.

"Holiday" is also unwritten mandatory, if there's such a thing in Canada. Well, Adam noticed...life is just slower here, and more important than work. Sure we pay what amounts to well over $4.00 for a gallon of gas, but we drive small cars and the money goes a long way.

If more American workers would demand more time off and would be wiser with their spending, things could be the same.

Instead they demand more money to keep up, and usually end up working more as a result. It's too bad, but I know that I learned the grass IS greener on the other side...that being the north side of the border. I'd never go back to work in the US unless I got kicked out of Canada.
